Schuyler Timmons
Soon I will be graduating from Evergreen State College here in Olympia, entering the "real world", and fighting for a more just and sustainable world. My education has informed me of countless injustices in this world, but my primary concern is climate change due to its all encompassing nature, whose root spurs from social inequality and environmental destruction. In order to successfully prevent the worst of the climate predictions, we will need to revolutionize our entire system, which if done properly will bring equality to the fore front. So, in a nutshell that is why I am here. I personally have a close relationship with the natural world, and try to spend ample time walking in the woods, snowboarding, climbing mountains, backpacking, biking, and canoeing. I have some wonderful friends here in Olympia who I love to hang with, but my family is far away as I grew up in Vermont. Currently I am interning with an amazing non-profit here in Olympia called Climate Solutions, and I am focusing on bringing climate change into the public and political spectrum. The upcoming elections provide a good opportunity to tell our potential elected representatives that we want to to see bold policy enacted that will put us on track to a low carbon, sustainable future. I hold hope, and in this time of peril we must never forget to laugh.
