I have been learning about global warming through reading and attending local events, e.g., Sustainability Conference at Evergreen State College, Ethics of Climate Change at the U.W, and the Wales Symposium presentation at Seattle's Town Hall. I value our children and future generations and the natural world with its wonderfully rich diversity. I want to work with others in the Seattle area to get real solutions underway.
Currently, I am working on:
- getting restaurants and coffe shops, which I frequent, to participate in Seattle's compost recycling program;
- getting sewage pumpout systems installed on all of the docks in all marina's in Puget Sound;
- communicating renewable energy ideas, as they come to me, to Seattle's mayor and Seattle City Light. For example, I am particularly interested in a solar project in Magnolia that this community could get behind. I would also like to see wind turbines at West Point on Puget Sound;
- seeing if all of the open spaces at Seattle's schools that are to be closed can be preserved for community gardens, fruit trees, etc., rather than being developed;
- contacting selected businesses and individuals regarding their possible interest in installing solar hot water and/or PV arrays.
