I have been interested in the ecology of the earth since growing up near Annapolis, Md and attending displays at college on the first Earth Day. In the mid 1980's we built a passive solar house in Iowa to try to cut down on heating bills and electrical use. A few years later we were part of a new CSA in the area. Currently, as part of the Beat the Heat Energy Subcommittee, we are stressing the use of compact flourescent light bulbs (or even better led bulbs). We have already had the City analyed for power useage and ways to conserve and are working to get the Kyoto treaty signed here. I am also buying Green Power and have local organic produce delivered once a week. I have found a wonderful reference book called "The Better World Shopping Guide" by Ellis Jones which I have given to many friends and neighbors" See http://www.betterworldshopper.org for more detailed information. I also purchase many items from sites that support third world businesses like The Hunger Site and its other related sites. I have just added attic insulation and upgraded 1/2 of my windows and am working on getting better doors on the house I purchased last year. I am going to global warming courses and doing other research as well as creating a library of resources for others to use.  I just purchased a Volkswagen '06 Jetta diesel that can use B20 directly.  There is at least 1 place in the area that sells locally produced biodiesal.
