My friend Melanie asked this:

Also, I'd like some practical advice that I'm sure some 2People members would have: how to recycle lots of old computer equipment (from an old school that will be demolished soon). I've done my best to freecycle stuff, but there's so much that is absolutely unusable in current form.

Hi Phil - Where do you live? Here in Charlotte, NC we have an outstanding recylcing program where you can take about 90% of household waste to be recycled. This includes old electronics, old grills, paint, etc. If you don't have that "full time" where you live, sometimes communities will have designated days throughout the year that the public can bring those items that don't fall under one of the "paper, plastic, glass, or aluminum" categories. Call your local waste management/recylcing department and see if they have such a program.  --Good luck!

also, depending on what type of computer stuff you have, Dell, HP, Apple and other hardware vendors will take back old equipment and recycle it for you. I don't even think you have to buy anything first (at least with some of them), but i'm not positive of that.

Here there are 2 days per year for recycling computers, etc., but I'm still researching other possibilities. Here's one site that looks promising http://www.electronicsrecycling.net/

 I'll keep you all posted.
