As a starting point, it would be nice to take a look around and see what forums already exist for collaborative tech development. Design That Matters and ThinkCycle are two that I happen to know about (they're related, both originated at MIT).

Very interesting starting points. Also the Lovins' Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) http://www.rmi.org/ has a wealth of information in their Library section.

Yes! RMI is fantastic, and Natural Capitalism should be required reading in business and engineering schools!
